1999 Ultra 150 cdi
I am looking at putting the hotter 99 cdi box in my 02 Ultra. I have a few questions I hope someone can answer? First off what are the #'s I am looking for on the box? I know the early 99's had the hotter cdi. Also I am running an ADA head with 42cc 91-93 octane domes. Do I have to use the expensive spark plugs with this head? Thanks for any help guys!

The part number for the original ignitor is no longer listed in the parts book. The LATER 1999s used part number 21119-3757. This is the number for the ignitor itself. I doubt that the box has any markings that would indicate which ignitor is inside.
The old ignitor requires use of the expensive plugs. If you're not able to find the early ignitor, but run higher compression heads, I think it would only be smart to run the expensive plugs. They hold up better if you have detonation.

That's the theory which just showed its face not to long ago. I just swapped my stuff over into an 03 hull with all the electronic. Ill know in the summer if there's truly any speed increase.
Btw I am very satisfied over the improvements in the hulls construction on the 03 then in the earlier models

You will see zero gains from the 99 cdi with the 42cc heads.
the 03-05 track a little better but only in stock form because of how the moved the sponsons and a trace on the hull. The 00-02 are in every way equal, I wouldn't worry about it.
The 99 hull is the fastest and also the lightest, it also has a tendancy to break with you hit things because it's just not as strong.

I agree the gains would be so minimal I would buy a prop before a cdi that may have .5 degree of advance
With your heads run 91 at least or u will have deto..
It's really what your compression numbers are...
