looking at a pair of 1998 xl760s for my family

4 kids 2-9. Everything i've read says these are very stable but still quick. 45 to 50 with a single rider. Is that accurate? Anything I should know? I've ridden late 90s SeaDoo gti & gtx. Comparison?

They are a perfect choice for beginning riders. Handing is similar to a bus but aside from that there is not much to complain about. Very reliable and extremely stable. Parts are also cheap and easy to find used. Have the oil injection a fuel hoses checked since they are now 15 years old. Don't bother with any mods aside from sponsons which is mandatory if you want any bite in the turns. But for kids leaving them stock may be best. As for comparison to the gti and Gtx? The dooz are slightly faster across the range but certainly not better machines for your purposes. They also cost far more to keep running since reliability on the doos is sometimes an issue.

Btw 45-50 is a bit high. More like 40-45mph. Certainly not 50.

Great choice for family with small kids. Very reliable motor but easy and cheap to work on when/if need arises.
You can pull two on a tube (depending on mirrors/state laws) and they'll have a blast. Disconnect/disable visibility spout so it doesn't spray them in the face and install new stainless steel u-bolt just below seat to tie rope to.
Perfect skis for you, go get'em.

    760's are GREAT... 700's are spin-out queens.
700's have diff sponsons and I think no mirrors,no reverse, diff display.
if they are 760xl's you will NOT need sponsons.
if they are 700xl's you will Want sponsons.
    not fast but fun, stable,dry....
