How To: Install RR ECU after the knock sensor update 04 RXP
I've seen this cause alot of grief to people installing new Rotax Racing ECU's in their skis so I figured i'd make this a sticky.
When installing the Rotax Racing ECU after you have had the knock sensor update done to your 04 RXP you must remove the piggy back harness from your knock sensor. This piggy back harness was installed at the time the knock sensor update was done.
NOTE: for the Rotax Racing "stock class" ECU you leave the piggy back harness in place.

Also, once you have your new racing ECU installed you will notice you dont get a beep when installing your lanyard. This is normal. You will also see "Maint" flash on the screen for five seconds every time you start your ski. This is also normal.
Be careful as any lanyard will now work to start your ski!

*** For Rotax Racing ECU equipped skis ***
If you have an 04 RXP you must have the knock sensor piggy back harness removed.
For 05 skis you must manually remove the resistor that was made into the wiring harness.
06 skis you do nothing.

THIS IS ONLY ONLY ONLY for 2005+ machines who run the 4501 Rotax Racing ECU.
next to the ECU there's 3 plugs on a bracket one on top the other vertically. the bottom plug i believe... has yellow wires with blue stripes... 2 wires going into the plug.
well cut the zip ties holding the wire harness to the intake manifold and remove the wire wrapping. you'll feel a bulge in there about 6" long and about 3/8" thick... inside that bulge is the knock sensor resistors. snip the wires going into it and coming out of that bulge. going IN is just one thick black wire (there's actually 2 wires within the big thick one).... coming OUT of the bulge is two yellow/blue wires.
you gotta cut the bulge (resistors) out of the harness, extend the wires and splice them together so u can plug the wire back in.
then IF you want to go back to stock... get a piggy back harness that is used on 2004 RXPs and now u have the knock sensor resistors back. what i did was ziptie the piggy back inside the ski so i can swap between having resistors and not having them depending on what ECU i'm running.

The 05's have the resistor built into the wire harness already and you have to cut it out when using a Rotax Racing ECU. Its the bulge in the stock wire harness leading to the knock sensor connector. I've never done one so im not quite sure how to go about it.

The update was done to make the knock sensor more sensitive.
If you have the piggyback harness in place the update was done
