    00 gr1200r project ski

Thinking about buying a 00 gp1200r ski, Went and looked at it today , ski has only 52 hours on it and is in really nice condition. The engine has low compression on the back cylinder due to an oil line coming off, guy said only ran for a short time after it started loosing power and damage to piston looking through the spark plug hole is pretty minimal , with a little pitting and a few dents in the piston, definetly doesn't look melted and completely trashed.

My 2 questions are he wont take less than $1500 and it doesn't come with a trailer, and the other is what are my chances of not having any or much metal in the case that would either need to have crank replaced or split case and clean it out?

You'll want to split the cases regardless. If there is debris in the cylinders, it will end up in the bottom of the case; if not, you'll want to for peace of mind.

At minimum, you'll need to renik the back cylinder, new piston, rings and pin and a new cylinder head. You'll also want to get a block off and go premix.

$1500 is still a decent price for a gp1200r with that many hours. It's unfortunate that there's unknown damage and it has no trailer.

Honestly, if it were me, I would pass. The price to repair everything + trailer is roughly the same for a working gp1200r at a good deal. Now that there's good weather (CT), you'll probably want to hit the water and not wrench on it for a few weeks.

Tell him YOUR highest offer is $1200, give him your celly, shake his hand and literally walk away. Be polite and if no one buys it off him, he may call you back. Don't believe him if he says anything about people coming to see it in a few days or week. You're trying to save money and hes trying to make money.
