    Engine install

    I have a 2002 Rx that I am going to put the engine back into. Any advice on what problems or anything special I need to do for the install?
    Thanks, Karl

    Karl,
    The only trouble I ran into w/ 951 was because of sloppy pipe preperation.

    Make sure the surfaces on the pipe and manifold are perfectly clean and flat. A light, once-over with 400grit wet paper(on a flat sanding block) and install the NEW gasket dry.

    Clean all treads. Install all bolts loosely, torq the bolts starting at the manifold and working back on the supports. Make sure none of the mounts are pulling at the manifold.

    Replace the manifold stud! They can break on subsequent installs.

    The engine really needs to be aligned to prevent vibration and future pipe problems.

    Thanks for the advice folks. Let me post a bit of background on this. I bought the ski with the engine in several boxes. A real basket case. I am having the motor rebuilt now. Since I didn't take it out it should be an interesting project. I did notice the other day when I was in the hull that the shaft tend to flop around. Is it supposed to have alot movement side to side and up and down? I've never worked on a ski with the motor out so I really have no idea what is normal and what isn't. Thanks Karl.

    Yes, when there is no engine connected to it the driveshaft flops...

    * If you happen to pull the pump also, replace the neoprene seal
    * Make sure both rubber plugs are at each end of the drivehaft
    * Align that motor !

    Hmmmmmmm I wonder. Should I, for tickles and grins, alighen the motor????
    Sorry can't help but be a smarta**.
    All kidding aside, thanks folks. That is exactly the info I need. I think I read a post from GH on how to do that. I'll have to go back and take a look at the how to section. I guess I need to get a special tool for that or is there a trick I can get away with, without the alignment tool. The wife is starting to look at the ski account a little funny.

    Check the thread...I put a cheap (read-no cost ) method on how to align it.
