Thread: Oil question

Hey guys, changed my oil today. I know I've read everywhere and it even says in the manual that with a filter change, the amount of oil is roughly 3.17 quarts. I sucked out an entire 4 quarts of oil. The manual says total capacity is only 4.55 quarts. I replaced the filter and only put back 3.5 quarts of oil. Started it on the water hose and let it run for a few minutes, cut it off waited a few minutes checked the oil level and it was dead on at the full mark. Just trying to make sense of this one. This is my first oil change since owning the ski, thinking it might have been overfull from a previous oil change. You guys ever seen this ?

Did you check your oil level befor you sucked it out? I supect not. It was more than likely over full some due to a small amount of fuel being washed by the rings raising the level a little over full. Tommy Jordan

Thanks Tommy, I always check the oil before I ride, not paying attention to the exact oil level as long as it showed on the stick. The ski only had 19hrs on it when I purchased it. I'm religious about maintenance and plan on doing an oil change before every riding season. I'm guessing it was a little overfull from the initial break in oil change. It's good now.

Looks like it was overfilled to begin with.
