Bottom of ski black is missing but not fiberglass showing. What should my buddy do? Throw some gel coat over it?Click image for larger version.

It's a composit so does not show through like the older fibreglass hulls.

Is he going to look after it once repaired?

I've seen some people lightly sand the area with a non abrasive sand paper and paint over it.
It's not going to look new again but its going to look better.
Anything else is going to cost you some $$$.
You could just leave it because that's considered surface damage and its not going to leak or affect performance.

You are the only 1 that's going to know its there.
It's not like anybody else is going to look that far under your ski.

    Rip on.

yeah, that i would sand it, prime it, sand that, paint it, use it.

I would tell your buddy to stop riding in shit water and quit beaching the hell out of his ski.. For a 2 year old ski, that thing is pretty rough...

I bought a Kawasaki STX15F last season with similar damage. I hit it with some of the rapid set MarineTex (which drys grey) and that was all. It was more of a precaution to protect it from further damage than anything.
