i go to temple university in philadelphia and as you know we have some harsh winters so we need to have heat. the house i live in with my 2 other roomates is a pretty big row home in the city with 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms a dining room, living room, and kitchen...and pretty spacious for a city home. we have gas heat and have gotten pretty high gas bills as of late....january's bill was around 250$, we were mad but what can we do? now we just got feburarys bill and it came out to 540$!! ........should i call the company? this is ridiculous.....the company's name is PECO(philadelphia energy company).....for those who have gas heat up north, how much do you guys pay?

Last January mine was $480 something.
Since then I have lived in 50 degree temps.
This year I broke down and moved it up to 60 only while im home.

could the low month have been an estimated bill and this month's is the actual reading of the gauge? They do that with electric here(florida) when the utility's meter readers are unable to get to you that month for a consice reading.

Get a Kerosene Heater
I used to run a Kerosene space heater. They are 99.8% efficient,
no smells and really augment/replace central heaters.
I just did a web search and see that the big Japanese mfg is not
selling them any more in the US.
The Japanese and others use these as primary heat source. They
make a great backup stove in emergencies.
Snoop around, you'll probably be able to get one on ebay.
BTW, whose Cable TV do you have? My company Hotwire does a lot
of Temple's student housing.

what do you keep the house set at? $540 isn't so bad if you live in an older home that is poorly insulated and you keep the heat set in 68-73 range.
My brother lives in NY and he paid $3000 in home heating oil bills to heat his home last winter.
