What could this have been in its previous life?

Well, this is a pretty darn expensive prop rod.

Oh ya, they lightened the ski up a bit too. Not one bolt in the ride plate.

Impeller looks just fine, inspected it through the jet nozzle before I laid down cash. Honestly, I think I still would have gotten the ski if I had known about this.

SO, What screws do I need for the ride plate? Do they have a torque spec? Do they need lock tight?

I need an intake grate, go with an aftermarket/performance grate or find an OEM???

If you aren't noticing a pattern in my posts yet, its an '01 SLX.

The ride plate bolts are 1/4-20x1 oval head stainless bolts. The 2 ride plate bolts by the intake grate are only 1/2 inch long. Do not try and use long bolts there. A stock intake grate would work fine. The aftermarket ones will only improve hook up in rough water, not increase speed.

    ... 2001 SLX.
That plastic hood hinge became a safety issue. They can fail at speed and allow the hood to hit the rider in the face, hard. There is/was a recall kit that adds a restraining cable to the front of the hood. If the hinge breaks the hood will come loose but the wire is supposed to prevent the hood from striking the rider.

How do I remove this? The sealant has it pretty well in there and I do not want to damage anything trying to get it out. Also, what sealant do I need to install a new one?

that sealant is just caulk, try to slip a screw driver under it carefully and pry a little bit. it should come off.

If it is really stuck then apply some heat from a heat gun. Warm it up enough and the stuff should soften.

So, the previous owner was riding this thing with nothing but caulk holding on the ride plate?

I will have to repeat myself here...
