thermostat blew its self out of the housing?

hey all just took my 2004 rxp for a quick burn maybe 10mins, was freezing cold.
soon as i got back to the ramp i noticed the hi temp was going off.
turns out the thermostat has ejected its self from the housing?
its a riva unit, the thermostat its self appears to have broken the washer part and has seperated from the actual thermostat and the whole lots poped out.
the black plastic housing doesnt appear to be damaged just the internal parts... any case why would this happen? and where can i get parts ?!

ill get some pictures up later because its bloody hard to describe

    cheers

My Riva thermo blew the alloy hat out of the housing but the thermo was still ok. I recall the Riva thermo is the same as an off the shelf one but I can't remember which one.
I epoxied the hat back in and used a good T-bolt hose clamp instead of Rivas collar.
The down side is it cooked the rings (for the second time) so now I'm rebuilding the bottom end.
I'll be installing a coolant level alarm when everything goes back together.

yeah that wouldnt be ideal, however it was running pretty dam good, down on rpm a tad but thats due to trying a different prop.

i would think it would be unlikely to blow into just a water jacket? the oil looks fine, was running fine... you never know though ill do a compression test to be sure.

these are the pictures you can see where the brass looking part has pulled threw the larger washer part....

There was a small issue with the Rivas blowing off/leaking at the hat...you can epoxy it to the housing then clamp it...or use some tine machine screws and screw it to the housing...you want to use a 160 thermo, which it should already be....

Yep, if you have tons of cash. He can get the mercruiser one for like 10 bucks and use that same housing or just fix the housing one.

    honestly $10 vs $400 ? .... really.

i think i should be able to source a merc one and fit that up, ill have to do a compression test to make sure it hasnt done a head gasket or something... i was giving it a pasting... didnt have my afr gauge on either... and the water temp and air temp are much cooler then 2-3months ago when i sent the afrs up... ahhh good old hindsight.
