Thread: Oil/Gas mix

    Oil/Gas mix

I have a 1998 Yamaha Waverunner XL 1200. You have to direct mix the oil and gas. Its a PV motor. I only took it out twice last year and when I did I ran it 40:1. When I ran it 40:1 it would smoke a little at an idle and not really wanna idle. What do you guys think I should run it as?

Im running 40:1 in my 06 GP1300. Make sure the ratio is proper, Use a oil mixing bottle and youll be fine.

    A 98 XL1200 should have a non-powervalve engine. 40:1 should be fine

Im pretty sure its a PV engine. I may be mistaken though. So 40:1 should be fine? I honestly dont remember the RPM'S.

40:1 is safe with most skis is fine as long as jetted right. Ive ran it for 8+ years and havnt had a single issue

Take a pic and we can tell you PV or non-PV. 98 is the only year the XL didn't have a PV 1200 but someone could have swapped it in or you're off by a year and its a 99. 40:1 is a good ratio for premix for your ski. If it doesn't idle well, check the idle RPM, low speed screw adjusters, carb synchronization, compression, etc. Try a fresh set of spark plugs. Or maybe even switch brands of oil.
