    97 GP1200 Trim Tab Design

I am going to make a set of drawings that copy the stock plastic tabs so people can make them out of alumunim. I am making a set for myself now.

Would you keep the thickness exactly the same as the plastic ones or is the a better thickness ? I assume that the trailing edge should be left sharp ?

    Any input would be appreaciated.

    Thanks.

    Dan

Not sure if these will work for a 97, but you may be able to get some ideas. http://www.hydrotoys.com/gpr/tuners/...trim%20tab.pdf

Those are a lot different than the stock one in my hand. I am finishing the model right now. Once I am comfortable with the print I will make a set and if they match up good (to the stock holes also) I will post the prints.

    Dan,

Can you not find anyone who has a set of the original RIVA aluminum tabs and just copy them? No point in reinventing the wheel. These tabs worked wonders for my 97.

It is my understanding that the Rivas are the same dimensions as the stock. I already have them modeled up, I just need to find time afterwork to make them and then get one of the shops I deal with to throw them in with their next anodizing lot !!

The Niagara river still has lots of ice so I don't think there is a rush........

I would not make the tabs any thicker. If they are made thicker they will actually hang down below the hull and scrub speed. If you have the time and money is not an issue, I would experiment and make a thinner set. If you are going for maximum hook up and porpoise reduction, you could make them longer.

As 97GPSLEEPER advised, make them longer, to give you tuneability...
I would add more thu hull fasteners and a bigger backing plate if you are extending these past the hull end.. also seal these down once you have the desired size...4200 should work fine... my .02 cents

2lick....I made exact copies of the stock tabs (use stock holes also), had them anodized and just mounted them last weekend, they came out real nice and fit perfectly so I know my prints are right on. If you want I can send you PDF's of the prints. I really don't have time to make you a set but any shop should be able to make them in about 2 hours. I am not a machinist and I was able to do them that quickly.
