recovering Gp1200r seat
I recently picked up a black tip seat cover very cheap and I am going to install it for the mean time till I can get a jettrim. The factory seat cover is torn pretty bad, with my past experiences with covering a torn seat with a new cover is it usually tears and the cracks are usually visible through the new seat cover and after time the new seat cover will crack in the same spot. My question is do I have to leave the factory seat cover intact or can I remove it and not have any issue. I have read that people have removed the factory cover but then the foam will get wet after riding and it weighs a ton and will eventually mildew. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

it looks like the cover is glue to the foam, i try before with no such luck. i ended getting a 1300r seat , they are lighter and you will be able to remove the old cover .

Most of the cover is loose except around the edges of the tear and the edges of the seat. If I do get it off could I wrap the foam in plastic so it does not get wet?

Yes. We had to do this with my VXR jet trim seat cover. Any plastic wrap will work. I've even heard of people using contractor bags to wrap the foam prior to installing their seat covers.
