    2004 RXP weak points question

I recently picked up a couple of 2004 RXP in awesome shape and pretty low hours (65.) The guy had the paperwork where he had them winterize by a shop after every season. I've been lurking on here a few days trying to see if there is anything that I should worry about. I read the issues with the valves, flywheel bolts and supercharger washers.

My question is this; these are going to be family ridden skis, not competition. Would it be safe for me to run them for this season, then do the upgrades, or should I bite the bullet and do it right away?

I'm not afraid of working on these things, but I just bought a house and am trying to get my Ultra 250X back together so I can sell it. (I could write a novel about the problems that thing has given me in the past 5 years.) So finding the time before the season starts is going to be hard.

    Thanks

Personally, all I would do this year is change the washers. If you end up putting around 40hrs on it this summer, then I would rebuilt the supercharger in the fall.

20 hours is more realistic. We have a short season here.

If the washers are ceramic, imo total rebuild. That way you know your good for the next 100hrs. No sense doing washers now and bearings later

They were driven in Fresh. But they are about to be in heavy mineral salt water.

Completely rebuild the s/c bearings and washers.
Then your good for the next 100hrs.
If the bearings or washers go out your looking at $2000+ in repairs.

DO NOT RIDE THEM TILL THE CHARGERS ARE COMPLETELY REBUILT BEARINGS AND WASHERS!!!!!

Pull the chargers first see what you have and go from there. If you have ceramic washers you need to at a minimum change them and set your slip. But a rebuild would be a good idea.

If it was me i would rebuild both chargers and ride them till the seasons over and then fix the other issues. Its a bit of a gamble but you decide if its worth it for you.
If a valve drops and takes out your block you could part them out and make some money back on it.

Rebuild kits are it. Spend a little more than grand now and have more than a Grand of Fun later!
The rebuild kits come with metal washers and one thing else to is; Change the Oil & filter while your at it for the better peace of mind.
    Hope this helps you out.

Thanks for the advice. My Kawasaki is more damaged than I had thought so I took it to a shop to see if they thought it was worth fixing, so that freed up some time. I'll order the rebuild kits and get on it.
