Except for during the Prohibition era, I don't recall moonshine ever being illegal. Of course, making liquor and selling it w/o a license and avoiding taxes is a different matter altogether...

And speaking of 'shine, I got a batch of Japanese Plums cooking at a friends house right now.

Sounds like a homemade "brandy" a Croatian friend of mine gave me to try called Slivocitca. I think plumb liquor is a popular brew in most of the Balkans. A Serbian guy in my neighborhood had something very similar but called it a different name. Fiery stuff!

Hey Mark, it'll be wine, but brandy is also possible. Heck, all I did was provide the fruit. The tree in my yard was loaded this year - from what I could see, they all were in SoLA (hardly a winter at all). I gave him 5 gallons of plums, which was about 1/3 of what the little tree produced. I sure hope 2013 is a good year, lol.

PS: My tree is technically the loquat http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loquat

Just in time for your birthday? LOL, I really don't know I imagine should be by the end of the month.

I got three friends who are all 'shiners. To date the best I had was "Water Melon". I couldn't believe the flavor came from some Jolly Ranchers thrown into the batch!

That is too cool, I love the inventiveness of that bunch. I have wanted to make some from the orange fruits in my yard for a while, I have no idea what they are called but they are delicious. They are about the size of a half dollar with 2 or so big brown seeds in the center and a slight fuzz on the outside of the skin.

Take a pic and lets identify it, then we'll get you a recipe. Next, if you still can't find a class to race your ski in, we'll strip it down for parts to build a still... lol. JK, Sean. But really, post a pic if you can and let's see what you got.
