    99 SLX Leak

So I got the SLX all running nice and everything, except it takes on water!!! water comes in from the right and left side, rear, im almost positive its those U bolts to attach tie downs for your trailer, one of them is broken and the other is rather rusty, and I just want to replace them both, and get some silicone in there, now there is a shit ton of Foam before you can get to them. has anyone else had to replace these? if so....how did you get threw all the foam?

Hacksaw blade minus the saw. Remove it in as big of blocks as you can, then you can try to put it back. Have you ridden with the seat off under power to look around? Also, some Polaris models can leak through the sponson mount bolts, but I can't remember which ones.

hrmm, well i know for a fact that the one side is leaking from that hook( it runs under the foam in that area) but as far as the other leaks im not sure.... i did the trailer test is where i noticed the one leak, but the lake was kinda wavy and i didnt want to ride with seat off in the waves

Well those hooks are probably the source then. I just figured that looking around under power once in awhile never hurts.

Might also not be a bad idea to remove sponsons and put a good bead of silicone on the back sides then re attach. Kind of preventative leak sealing.

If you remove the sponsons, take a good look at the threaded inserts behind the sponsons. If there is a leak at the sponsons, the inserts are where the water would be getting in.

Sometimes an insert will become loose and is no longer tight to the hull material.

The sponson mounts on the 96 SLT I just cut up were molded and cast into the hull. I didn't see anywhere they could have leaked, even if the inserts came loose... Just FYI not sure if yours may be the same.....

Thanks for the heads up, im going to attempt to pull the sponsons and take a look at them, i was removing foam to get the tie down hook out, but im thinking of pulling the sponsons and putting a nice thick bead of silicone down then sticking them back on, as that will seal up all the bolts and everything, even if there is a small leak that will take care of it,a

any tips on getting sponsons off? when reinstalling do you use loctite or any kind? this was a salt water ski, so im thinking this is not going to be easy...
