Miami to Bahamas May 19th, 2013

Got a couple of skis and a small boat going to the Bahamas, leaving from Haulover May 19th. We are going further south after Bimini and coming back by Staniel Cay, Norman's Cay and Nassau. We are planning 8 days for the trip. Anybody crossing the morning of the 19th? Anybody up for a trip? Any of you guys that have done this before got words of wisdom?

Too bad its 8 days, that's too much for me, if not I'd go with.

As for words of wisdom, I havent done this trip specifically, but open seas are dangerous, make sure you take a PLB and other emergency only equipment. I belive every PWC should have its own Water, VHF and GPS, its easy to lose sight of someone if weather rolls in unexpectedly. Other than that, sunscreen and have fun. I've been wanting to do that trip for quite a while.

I'll butt-in, and assume he meant EPIRB: Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon. Usually worn on the body, while other types are specifically mounted on vessels. Google EPIRB.

If you plan on going in the open ocean often I would just buy one.

If this is a one time thing then rent it.

ya sorry....EPIRB....actually we had a GPIRB which uses GPS and will send the Coast Guard your exact location within 100 yards. The unit came in a water tight yellow suit case which you do not open unless in trouble. When we rented it we gave them a complete itinerary of when we were leaving/returning, make/model/colour of our boat so that the Coast Guard could locate us.

a complete itinerary of when we were leaving/returning, make/model/colour of our boat so that the Coast Guard could locate us. AKA, a float plan. Always file a float plan, especially a trip of this magnitude.
