    2002 Aquatrax F12: Opinions

    I am looking at a 2002 Aquatrax F12 with 271 hours. Honda's reputation is usually pretty solid. What about these skis? I have a 2004 Seadoo GTX S/C and I am looking for a ski for my wife.

    I guess all the Honda guys sold out and went to Seadoo.

    im sure there super reliable it is a honda lol.....and as far as any ski goes id imagine its how well you keep up with the maintenance. Ive always heard good things about the Hondas though they seem to last a long time with very minimal costs.

    Is it an F12 or F12X? Difference in maintenance and things to look for.

    At about 300 hours you should replace the carrier bearing. When these fail it lets water into the ski. If you don't have a bilge pump it can be a real problem.

    Change oil every 50 hours. If you trust guy ask him when last time was. I use Mobil 1.

    There is a plastic piece where the reverse cable goes thru the hull. These get brittle over time and can crack/leak. Just something to check.

    Salt or fresh?

    Impeller housing on some have been known to get some corrosion between liner and the pump. It is aluminum. Check it with a light both from rear and from under side. Look at pump/impeller tolerance (fit) while under also.

    These motors will go a LONG time with no issues usually. Especially the F12. If the price is right (what is it by the way) they are very good recreation skis and very economical.

    It's an F12 non turbo and I would end up having about $2500 in it.

    I have a R12 2005 just did 450hrs service I has been great just replaced the main relay

    Did you end up getting the wife this Honda? I just traded in my 2003 F12x. I bought it a couple years ago with 52 hours on it for $4,500 with a decent Zeiman trailer. My opinion on it was it's not the sharpest handling thing on even the slightest chop and and my wife really didn't care for that...to the point where she didn't even want to ride anymore. Around 62 hours a relay/solenoid went wonky and caused the starter to wig out and then totally fry but not before killing the battery. Shit happens to any ski and I don't hold this against it being a Honda. It still reached top speed and engine/turbo wise it was solid like a Honda should be. I'm pretty sure my 2012 GTR 215 will solve any handling issues my wife had about the Honda though. lol
