2009 RXTX - Loss of power; variating idle.

The ski ran great all day and then while taking off from the beach (pulling a wakeboarder) the rider pulled the throttle and the ski immediately made a weird noise. I thought he sucked something through the grate/jet pump because he was in shallow water when he started the ski, but I could not find anything at all in there when the ski was put on the trailer. There was a noticeable loss of power and the idle was fluctuating from 1720 to 1780 RPMs, even hitting in the 1800s multiple times. Any idea what the issue could be? I was thinking he should start with the spark plugs, but don't know how they would just foul like that.

He didn't run it WOT after it happened because he didn't know what was going on. Someone we know ran their ski after a loss of power and blew a rod, he wasn't about to do the same.

It might be as simple as a shot wear ring if he sucked up a lot of sand etc. When u say loss of power was it like it was revving with no power?

Yes. When you would give throttle it would sort of rev with no real power. But would that also throw the idle off? How do you tell if the wear ring is bad?

    Check your wear ring.
If it revs up but doesn't hook up immediately then its probably a worn out wear ring.
I'd also change the spark plugs and run a double dose of Lucas fuel Injector cleaner thru it.
Put about 5-6 oz with a full tank of fuel.
I've seen a lot of skis that old fuel clogs Injectors..

sounds like your supercharger hose came off, check all your boost hoses if all this is fine, then proceed to see if you can spin the supercharger with your fingers, if so your supercharger blew up and all the shit is inside your engine.

There is nothing wrong with your idle, that is perfectly normal.
