Cool First Ride - First Impressions

I picked up my Ultra last night.
Despite the rain this morning, I loaded the trailer and headed to the lake.
When I arrived, the rain had stopped and the sun was peaking through the clouds.

I fueled my virgin Red Ultra and set out to seat the rings.
I cruised at lower RPM's and threw in short WOT bursts.

Here are my initial test results:

65.0 mph GPS 1/2 tank of fuel first tank 50 deg air fresh water
66.3 mph GPS 1/4 tank of fuel first tank
67.3 mph GPS Low fuel buzzer second tank of fuel

Note: to silence the buzzer, press the set button once.

    Impressions: 1 poor - 10 awesome

Looks 9 (both red & blue look great)
Fit & finish 7 (reverse lever rattled, slop in steering)
    Handling
general 7 (definitly nose heavy - needs wedge & ride plate mod)
    Handling
rough water 9 (easily cuts through 1-2 foot chop)
Fuel inlet 5 (angle prevents use of funnel - use hose type filler)
    Fuel
consumption 6 (this thing likes gas)
Gauges 6 (small, difficult to read when bars all the way up)Acelleration 9 (zero cavitation from a dead stop!)

Overall, Kawi did a great job. Very fun to ride.
For those of us seeking more top speed, we will likely need a different supercharger or turbo.

Thanks to all of you who posted info on the Ultra. I am glad I bought it.

I took my B-Kit RXP (81.9 mph GPS) out after and really had fun.

    Cheers,

    Scott

The steering slop can be adjusted out. (most of it). The LX wedge and shave the middle of the ride plate like a R&D STXR ride plate will help the ride drive and the gas mileage.

How do you adjust the slop out of the steering?

Well, this is the first mention of shaving the middle of the ride plate. Everyone else is speaking about angling the rear for more lift. Hmm interesting. Will wait to hear read more abou this approach.

I am glad you are happy with your purchase. Too many people are being too hard on this ski. I think it is very impressive. How does the holeshot compare to a stock RXP?

97 I am very pleased with mine. I wanted something that had a good ride and some power if I wanted to play. It fits the bill for me. I was actually on the way to get a fx ho yamma when I learned of the ultra.

When you unbolt the steering column, there is a large nut. Undo that and under that is a screw on plate. Then you will see a round plate with two small alen head screws. Take those out and tighten the large screw on disc with a pair of channel locks. I am going to drill som extra holes for more adjustment, but that is just a quick run through on tightening the steering. It seems to be either loose or too tight, so some more adjusting holes might help.

It has been so long since I was on a stock RXP it is hard to compare the holeshot of an RXP to the Ultra.
However, the holeshot on the ultra is strong.
I give the ultra a 9 out of 10 for accelleration.
I have spent so much time modifying my RXP, it is refreshing to simply hit the start button and have a ski perform so well out of the box.
I am tempted to get the nose up and call it good. Not! I love to tinker.
So, I guess its off to the shop.
    Cheers - Scott

I am trying to get a comparison on the holeshot compared to my ski. I take stock RXP's by about two lengths out of the hole, just wondering if I can take this big beast out of the hole.
