This MPH right for these mods?
Brand new 2012 Yamaha SHO Cruiser with 3 hours weighs 1040 lbs dry: Riva Stage one kit, Riva Rear Exhaust, HKS BOV, Riva Cooling Upgrade Kit, Riva Intercooler upgrade Kit, I weigh 180, plus 50lbs stereo eqpt, water temp about 50, going downstream of Miss River at 70.0 MPH. No intake grate yet (on backorder), stock ride plate and no pump shoe kit yet. Lots of cavitation out of the hole, can hear the motor turning 4 or 5 times when it takes off. Still pretty quick out of the hole but too much cavitation. Any suggestions?

now do a grps run upstream and average your speed that way you know what the true speed is, Because doing a run with the river does not give you true speeds of the ski.

1040lbs dry? I think you weighed the trailer too.

Dry weight should be 853lbs. Add fire extinguisher, tool kit, your stereo and it should be around 910-915. A full tank of gas is about 110 lbs, so that puts it at about 1020-1030.
The average speed of the Miss is 1.2 mph, so your speed doesn't seem too far off for a new stage 1 Cruiser. It will loosen up some by about 10 hours, and you might get a little more speed. You didn't mention trim settings, but setting it nose up will help a little, too. The pump seal kit will help your cavitation, but not totally eliminate it. Get the R&D Anti Cavitation cone, and your cavitation should be gone (until you start doing more upgrades).

Suprised cavitation is that bad. I have done a holeshot with the same machine with only a slight hint of cavitation.

I was just going off of some websites that state the weight at 1040 lbs, I may have mis read it.

My FX Cruiser SHO has a a bit of cavitation and is stock. Stock to stock, my FZR had less. When I did stage 1 mods to the FZR, it cavitated pretty bad before I did the pump seal kit, R&D cone, and a repitch.

70mph on gps is almost too quick for a sho with a stock plate and prop.heck i only went 70.5 with jims rd plate and supporting mods in my 2011.when you change out the grate your speed you will likely drop a little.gps it somewhere with no current and report back.

Dragdaddy, can you tell if your hitting the rev limiter? 70 mph I think would be pretty close.
Off topic, what's the water quality like on the Miss' river? Always wanted to check it out.
