    starter question

helloo all. i just go the ski out for the first time this year and the starter wont en gauge. so i took out the bendix and cleaned it. I just replaced this last year. it still looks new. but it still wont engauge. could it be that my starter is not spinning fast enough.

I put the bendix in the cordless drill on speed one and it works fine. but not in the ski.

    my battery is fully charged.

    any help would be grateful

Is the starter seated with BOTH orings ? Are both.bolts.in the starter mount? Is the bendix greased inside it? I uzually grease the inside and move it.by hand to see if it still moves in n out corecctly and detents back when not in use. If you had it out.you could shake it and if you hear it rattling inside....its no good. I had one that looked good but it sorta rattled inside.it didn't work. Are the teeth good all the way around on both gears? What about the teeth on the starter gear? Just a few things to check...a good connection is vital for proper current to get it to jump out.

ok so yesterday when i had some free time i took a poke at it. i found that wheni hit the starter my battery button the voltage dropped to 5.5 volts. so i ditched the battery,i got a new one. put it in and got 10.6 volts at the starter. took ebox apart and found that the terminals were very dirty. so i cleanded it up. not it works. but it will only kick it over like 5 times before the starter kicks out.

so what could be the problem now?

As starters age, the can begin to seize up. The brushes to commutator contact may be corroded, dirty, and need cleaned. If the housing is corroding, it may be tightening up the motor creating more load than necessary. More load due to a partially seized starter motor will drain the battery faster. I would check and replace the starter if necessary. It should turn freely with a pair of channel locks or similar on the pinion gear.....

What do you mean before the starter kicks out?

Do you mean you can start and stop the engine five times in a row, then it will crank but no longer start?

    What is happening?
