    Premix setup

    I pulled the oil injection pump out of my 97 GP1200 yesterday. I was leaning towards going to premix and once I saw how easy it was for me to pull the lines off the pump I am REALLY leaning towards premix.

    A couple of questions;

    1) Looking through the RIVA archives it looks like I should be premixing at 40:1 although some say the stock pump is 50:1 at WOT so why bother going to 40:1. So which is it ?

    2) Island is rebuilding and setting up carbs for me and I am running the RIVA F/A's (Thanks Eric!). When I put this all back together should I put that metal bracket between the adapters and the cones like it was under the stock box ? I am taking about the bracket that holds the two Zerk fitting lines. I could make little brackets to hold the lines if that makes sense. What do you guys do ?

    Thanks in advance guys.

    Dan

    The Shop Manual says the pump mixes 50:1 at WOT. When my ski was stock, I did 50:1. I do 40:1 now since I've added a few mods, I guess it just makes me feel a little better. What oil are you using?

    I took that bracket off and just zip tied the grease lines to anything that was handy. You can take the Zerk fittings off that plate and put them back on the grease lines.

    Slaw ..I feel that 50:1 is fine for most stock skis...but when you start hopping it up ,the extra insurance (IE: OIL) mixed at 40:1 is needed..

    Oil selection is a VARIED consensus...Yamalube is not held very high

    KLOTZ is (excellent) but costs more

    Penzoil synthetic is good doesnt cost a lot and have heard good things, but remember that is opinions

    Some of the guys I race the hydro's against have told me the same thing, they tell me it tends to gum up the insides. I am just the driver, not the engine builder with that boat so I don't really know firsthand.

    Here are 2 other options for you. With the preferred customer plan, it is close to the same price of Pennzoil.

    Interceptor Oil

    HP Injector Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil (HPI)

    I just zip tie the grease fittings and hoses to something. I route one through the rear bulkhead.

    Little brackets would be cool.

    Check out the zerk bracket I made out of the plate. I cut it up a little bit and it works real well. Looks clean too. Also, good choice on the pre-mix!
