63M running with flame arestors off ????

I was trying to tune my 63m and set the carbs to the factory settings and the ski had a hard time staying running in the water. So I played around with it till I got it to stay running. But was pretty slow on the top end (47 mph) do I need to start over from scratch and do my tuning with the flame arestor base and top on? With them off, is it causing the vacuum to be off and there for running bad? I recently put boydson reeds in it and removed the choke plate/shafts and converted to premix (40:1)

Run it with the air box on and find out. I can't say for sure if its you only problem. But it is a problem you'll need to cross off the checklist.
Carbs operate on air flow, vacuum signal strength, and the venturi effect. There is a BIG difference in signal with or without the airbox on. I can tell you already have some knowledge of this since you suspect it. Its a pain in the rear because the airbox is in the way but you have to install the airbox...test ride...then adjust.
