Back in the day, HotSeat would use the dots to differentiate between compression/octane ratings for their domes. The more dots, the more compression/octane.

    According to HotSeat:

    1 dot = 92 octane & roughly 165lbs cranking compression
    2 dots = 104 octane & roughly 210lbs of cranking compression
    3 dots = 112 octane
    4 dots = 114 octane

All these numbers are for the 785 Pro.

i have 92 octane domes but there not 165..there all about 152....

not sure what DOT my other ones are..BUT they ran at 180psi and HOT SEAT said they were 110 octane domes when i called them ..

    Dome info

A compression gauge is not a good indicator of "actual" compression ratio..The mechanical ratio is what really counts.. For example a 12-1 dome is intended for pump gas (usually), and if Crazy borrowed Marks gauge that read 165lbs at marks house but he fell off his bicycle on the way to his house the gauge will not read the same.. LOL..

    Every gauge reads different...

    Someone say triples???

I know that HotSeat made domes "dotted" 1-4. I also know for a fact that HotSeat themselves (at least at one point in time) claimed 92, 104, 112, and 114 octane respectively.

On our Pro 785, at sea level, on a Snap-On unit, 1 dot is roughly 160 lbs, 2 dots is roughly 200lbs. (give or take. We've seen the 2 dots read anywhere from 195-205lbs on several machines)

I agree with Randy though, the corrected ratio is what's important, not the cranking numbers. All readings vary from gauge to gauge, location, accidentially using the wrong length insert.... etc.
