Virage Tx starts hard but runs good after its going.

Hi I was wondering if you could help me out.

    I have a 2000 virage tx 1200cc

This ski starts hard but runs great once its up and going.

What can I do to get it to start better?

I will be installing a fresh battery soon before I try it again.
It has fresh plugs and fresh fuel.

Any ideas on why its starting hard? once its started you kind have to baby it up to speed then it goes good from that point on.

I have a cheapo battery in it now and That's probably most of the problem but it has always started like this.

    Thanks for your help!

WHat is your procedure for starting it? I like to pump the throttle while cranking the engine. THat causes the accelerator pump to squirt fuel down the carb throats and makes it fire off very easily.

pull choke all the way out, crank while pumping throttle crank and crank ... then 1-2 pops like it wants to go then ease of the choke just a little, then crank and crank and run.

Then its like its loaded up cause you have to work the throttle little by little till the rpms climb.

Then pulling away from the dock you have baby it to full throttle then it goes strong after that.

If the battery is not strong you will have no spark or intermittent spark. In this case, you need the battery to be above suspicion, but I suspect something else is not right.

Bypass the LR-505 module for a test. Details via my signature links, or Search for LR-505 on here.

Ok I will try this. The ski will crank even without the lanyard but wont run without the lanyard.

did a compression test. front mag cylinder was low at 105 other 2 where at 130

While cranking the voltage drops to 8.6 to 9.2 volts. I think the battery is toast.

Whats a good battery for this ski?

Deka ETX16LM - AGM factory sealed, an excellent battery for a watercraft.

Probably the same battery, not all listings include the full suffix.
