Old faithful almost goes up in flames!help!

I was out riding my 2006 15f with 430 hrs on the river with my friend when it almost went real bad. It was the end of a long ride and she was running great we were running all out and I was in front of him on his Yamaha and heard a slight pop from my exhaust but lost no power. I may have ran for another 20 seconds or so then I slowed to an idle and then it went bad. Smoke was pouring from my ski with a strong melting plastic smell. I shut it down and took the seats off and noticed it was coming from the rear and thought for a minute that my new battery was cooking off but realized it was my mufflers and the foam around them and the various rubber parts of the exhaust system. It got so hot that the bucket under the seat melted my mat when I set it down. I poured water back there and it flash boiled when it touched the mufflers. I had plenty of water coming out of the pisser no overheat alarm so somehow the exhaust got real dry and overheated. When I got home I ran it on the hose and it ran well but there was warm water coming out of the bilge and all the hoses on the exhaust system were split from the high heat. With the engine compartment being so tight I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on where to look for the leak? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Check for cooling hoses/fittings that are plugged, also check that your pump manifold isn't plugged up on the top of the jetpump.

Nah, I have seen a few with 500+

They are pretty well bomb proof if you halfway take care of them.

the exhaust is cooled by water coming from the jetpump outlets..there is a bit of plumbing down there and it's tight, but I've seen this failure when the pump chops up aquatic weeds or plastic bags..you had some blockage, so might as well rip it all out and redo it fresh. I started using braided clear vinly hose for cooling system repairs so the flow of water can be confirmed visually. have a look at the pump..I'd bet one of the lines came off the pump.
