Question GP1200 Display will not trun on with engine

I have a 99 GP1200 the last time I took it out the gauge display would cut on and off intermittently and now will not turn on at all when the ski is started. It still allows me to use the security code and if I unplug the blue connector I can run to function test on the display. I am out of ideas.

Pull the display out of the ski and check all the connections for corrosion or loose fitting terminals/connectors. Otherwise, sounds like it might be on its way out and in need of a replacement.

And to add to this, a few times last year, my display wouldn't come on when I started my GP. If I played with the buttons it would start working. I chalked it up to a low voltage glitch because my battery was old and tired and the ski cranked over kinda slow. This year with a fresh battery it works good, except for the first fire up in my driveway. I went through the security reset procedure and that woke it up.

My 97 just did this, this past weekend. Started it and it came on a cpl mins later - Glad to hear it could be the battery as mine is def weak.
My batter has set for a while has been on / off a trickle charge, does ok if you ride it, but wont hold a charge much when sitting stored.

Does the ole Epsom salt trick work much ?

ok did some more checking this morning. I found the volts on the batt stay at 12.1 when the engine is revd it is a new batt to by the way. Also found the green wire going to the display had no volts( im told that's the trigger wire) Could it be a voltage regulator?

Maybe, but its probably the "lighting" coil in the stator. Run the ohm tests on it.

well its not the voltage reg. I have to find an ohm meter the read low enough to check the stator. The manual is a bit unclear do I read across the two green wires or do I read across a green and a ground?

Is the lighting coil also known as the pulser coil?
