Repair 2 stroke or trade in on 4 stroke???

    What would you guys do?
i have a 2005 XLT1200 with about 30 hours on it that I believe needs the carbs rebuilt. I haven't had it to the shop yet, but my understanding is this is a pricey job.
Would you fix it and stick with the 2 stroke and carbs or trade up to a 4 stroke and never have to worry about carbs again?

There's trouble with them all pick your poison. if you got the money trade up or if you like the 2 stroke, carb rebuilds aren't that bad.

Where are you located? You might be able to find a local member who could help you out and pull the carbs and rebuild them a lot cheaper than the dealer.

What would I do, well if money is not a problem I would go 4 stroke without hesitation.
After 25 years of owning various marine 2 strokes I have never regretted leaving them behind, along with the carbs, oil in the fuel, smoke, hard starts, etc. etc. Now if you like to tinker and enjoy wrenching it's not a problem, but otherwise if you ride a lot like we do, the fuel savings alone is worth going to a 4 stroke.

I did my carbs while watching a youtube video in my livingroom. Step by step. Pausing at each step. It wasn't as hard as I thought. 3 carbs took me roughly 90 minutes and I'm a total newb with this stuff.

I personally won't spend much on a 2 stroke with the availability of decent priced 4 strokes. Especially a ski with some future expectations. I would find a dealer with good Pre owned 4 strokes and go from there.

Like YoYa said, if you like to tinker go with a 2-stroke. I have a 4-stroke and can do a ribbon-delete, intake grate, and ride plate then I'm done. I'm not about to tear apart a 4-stroke. A 2-stroke, however, is a piece of cake. All the help you need to rebuild it is already here.
