Any good smooth water/river/creek type riding around Austin/San Antonio?

We're talking about heading down there next week. Looking for some good ride spots.

Travis water level is way down be careful. I rode lake Austin last weekend and its good for a two-way lake, but it was very choppy thus everyone and their mom have wake board boats. But everyone goes there cause of Travis being low.

We're going to be riding during the middle of the day in the middle of the week, so I am guessing traffic will be light. Right now looking at Lake Austin, Lake Dunlap and maybe Lake Canyon. I'm worried about Travis being too low to make the creek areas.

Lake Austin I would think would be light traffic during the week. Canyon lake is nice. Be careful for the rocks along the shore. Not much beaching area there and lake Austin as well. They're both Great Lakes. Never been to lake dunlap.

Canyon is nice but the water level is low so the best part of riding there (the river portion) is pretty much out. Lake Dunlop is short and gets very crowded, there is only a couple really good spots for speed (by the dam is great). You could try Lake LBJ and the connecting lakes there. Lots of riding but the waves do get up at times.

Thanks for all the info. We ended up riding Lake Austin on Monday and it was quite crowded for a Monday afternoon. The last 5 miles up by the Travis dam was nice. No one up there, very clear, cold water. Made me wish I had my scuba gear.

Then Lake Dunlap on Wednesday. 15 miles to see the whole lake Nice water and scenery, but hardly worth the launch in terms of distance traveled.

Jarrett, how was the vegetation growth in Lake Austin up near the dam? Last year it was so thick we could't go all the way up.
