    2002 Virage -Damaged pump stator

Hey guys. I do a lot of reading and stalking on here, and I guess now it is time for me to post and ask for help. I got a 2002 polaris virage 700 and started going through it to check it out. The ignition would come and go, but thanks to k447's information I was able to troubleshoot it and I have those parts on the way.

In the mean time I decided to tear into the jet pump. Someone has been it before as one of the 4 bolts was snapped off about 1" out of the hole, and the gasket and bolts were missing on the cone. Amazing it is still in there. The bearings seem fine though, and the prop looks good. I am going to check the wear ring clearance today. Now the stator. This baby is a 5 blade alum and looks like a shark has been chewing on it. There are chunks missing. This might explain the lack of top speed. Anyway I have seen mention of 6 vane stators, and of SS stators. What do I need for an otherwise stock setup? Where is the best place to get it?

    Welcome

    Two or three cylinder Virage?

    Fuel injected or carburetor?

Have you been working through my signature links, especially the Jet Pump sections?

I was just reading throughyour sig again and found another page I must have missed last time that gave a polaris part # for the 6 blade stator and even explained the advantages of a 6 over a 5. But I also see where a wedge is mentioned, as well as a tail cone extension. Mine has neither of these. Should I add them. I see an explanation of the wedge, but what is the purpose of a tail cone extension?

Tail cone extension was a special purpose thing on a specific Polaris model, does not apply to the Virage.

The AAT is an aftermarket tail cone that provides slightly better acceleration and/or top speed.

That AAT is pretty neat. Am I reading it right in that it extends and retracts during operation to provide the best cone profile at the given rpm? Someone took some time thinking this up.

I also see where the AAT is available in a stock and 4 degree wedge setup. If I decided to do this mod would it make since to add a wedge and AAT?

What would be the benefit right now of adding a wedge without the AAT?

You should already have a 4 degree wedge in your pump.

I just checked and you sir are correct. I did not notice it when doing the disassembly. Has anyone here got an AAT installed? Noticable difference? Worth the money?

For anyone running across this in the future, I did get the 6 vane SS stator. It is built way better then the original and is worth the extra investment.
