    GP1200r with 65u conversion

Hello everyone... I am new to the forum and I just purchased a gp1200r with a 65u conversion. Everything is done but the previous owner put the front cover and electrical box off a 1100 wave venture. It fires up but don't know if I should be running it like that? I would think something can go bad. Also my gauges don't work, I am guessing because the front cover is not the one? All the help would be great.. Thanks

people who are tired of expensive PV1200 repairs. There have been several non-power valve 1200/1100 conversion threads somewhat recently

gauges def won't work. Would have to use gauges for the electrical which would be the 1100 stuff. But i say take a pic of the motor and make sure its actually a 1200 with 1100 electrical or just a 1100...take good side of the carbs since they will be a dead giveaway if they are the 38s or 44s..not much else different on the outside if im not mistaken.

This...what in the heck? You can get a 66v engine pretty cheap just look for one on here.

because 65u is more reliable. ive had so many powervalves loose a screw and mess up a block, one time a screw came loose, fell in the motor, scored the cylinder, ripped off the skirt, and threw a hole in the block... YAY REPAIRS.... said no one.. EVER.... i rather run a NON PV over a powervalve any day. but thats my justification anyhow.

My gagues worked with my waveraider 1100 into a 01 gp1200r hull. Using the gpr cluster I get mph, oil, fuel, rpm and a loud ass alarm that lets me know when it's overheating or running low on gas or bat voltage is low... I can snap pics of wiring if interested.

Must wait till I get home. Ill snap a couple for you. I have a 2000 gpr with the 1100 swap. All oem gpr sensors connect to gage cluster as from factory. The harness that comes from the 1100 or 1200 to the gages just needs to be spliced into the one on the gpr. Its only 4 wires if im not mistaken and with the exception of only one , should be the exact same colors on both. Think it was green red brown and black.

Yes, the gauges will work fine if wired properly. 65u has a better ignition system than the 1100 and larger intake and carbs. Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about it unless you're after every last ounce of hp you can get. THEN...I'd be on the lookout for 65u electronics. I'm not sure why anybody would go backwards so I'm guessing you have an 1100 in there.
