    Hydro Locked 2002 GTX 4TEC - Fixed

New member here. This is a great forum for finding out how to do things. I've learned a lot. So I guess its time I contribute. First time I've done it in the 11 years I've had it but I managed to hydro lock the engine while getting it ready for the Summer. I didn't turn the water off first, before shutting down the engine. Instead of taking on the intake manifold or exhaust this is how I got the water out--I used a Jet vac to suck the water out:
    1. Remove spark plugs
    2. Remove intake air hose
    3. Zip tie the throttle level so it opens up the throttle and turns off the ignition
    4. Turn on the Jet vac.
    5. Use Jet vac hose to suck the water from the cyclinders and intake manifold
    6. Turn over the engine while performing this
    7. Repeat several times
    8. Change the oil 3-4 times. The first two oil changes I used cheap 10W-40 oil. The last two oil changes I used a high quality synthetic blend. I also changed the oil filter of course.
I managed to suck a large amount of water out. It does not appear that I damaged anything. The compression seems good and the engine runs smooth. All-in-all I spent about 9 hours sucking out water and changing the oil (hand pump). I learned a good lesson even though I knew better and I saved myself a lot of money. I have yet to put in the water but when I do I'll report back. Hope this helps someone out there.

The sooner you run it the better.
Run it for 30+ min and that will evaporate any remaining moisture in the motor.
I've seen milky oil turn clear after 20-30 min of riding.

    Get R done.....

Indeed you are right. I did that very thing. Actually ran it for 20-30 minutes a couple of times (not back-to-back though). Thanks!
