Thread: Catastrophe ?

I was on my third run today. Took my daughter out for a father's day spin at the lake. Suddenly the ski sounded bad and shut down. It would not restart. I threw in my new start switch but no go. Pulled the plugs and
Note the gap on the center plug. The plugs layed out left to right were running front to back. New block. AMSOIL oil, drilled carbs with jet at the end, premix only. I can't say for sure but this thing won't turn over and I think it might be seized. Just clicks. ONly 10 hours on the newly installed block and rebuilt carbs.
Super big view

I would recharge the battery, throw in a new plug in the center and the others back and try to start it again. If it wouldn't start, don't insist.

Shouldn't I figure out why the electrode on the center plug is bent in first?

I was thinking you might have dropped the plug in and accidently bent the electrode... Better follow Rocketman advice.

you definitely have trouble. There goes half or all of your season.
Where did you buy your engine from?

Were your carbs rebuilt? If so, who did them? Might have been lean. Was the initial reason for the vented case ever addressed?

this is what I bought for a block. I reused the carbs etc. that came with the ski.
Vented case? I did the carbs myself with Mikuni rebuild kits. New diaphragms. New Check Valves. Also drilled out the restricters and added a mikuni inline jet at the end. I did not rejet them. Switched to premix and deleted the oil pump.
This was the same cylinder that failed when I purchased the ski (Cylinder #2). I had assumed the initial failure was an oil injector problem because the hull had so much oil in the hull when I got it.

Was the engine knocking before it shut off? Did you perform a pop off test to check the carbs? I would contact the seller and see if he would warranty it.

55 psi. I'll retest everything. It made some strange noise but it was fast. Not sure if I'd call it knocking.
