Anyone Build a fiberglass "Box"
Anyone here build a fiberglas box before? Looking at basically making a 3x4x5ft. box for my karavan trailer. Since my trailer splits apart i need a custom design to pull this off and figured fiberglass is maybe the way to go?
Ive never built anything out of fiberglass before but ive been reading up on it and it seems pretty straight foward. I would gelcoat it to match my skis too! figure the mounting areas and the "floor" would need to be reinforced somehow and would have to come up with a fiberglas lid but it shouldn't be too hard?
Thoughts? am i crazy?

What is the design you want to create?

I hate working with fiberglass on anything large or that needs to be super smooth / straight.

Make a foam mold wrap it in aluminum tape and start glassing.

That looks good! I'm a metal guy and hate fiberglass unless its the only option!

Another thing im confused about is reinforcing mounting areas and hinge areas. Where im putting hinges can i just put some wood in there and glass over that?
The hardest part about this im thinking is doing the lid!

Just std oz cloth not sure the # the foam is removed after the first few layers. Yes you can glass over the wood for support.

Yes cover all the foam or the resin will bubble it no release agent it fell out. Yep keep adding layers till the desired thickness. Home Depot.

if the box is going to be one piece.... why not just have it bent out of a sheet of metal and have someone weld the seams?
