    GP1200R Shaft/Impeller removal

Getting ready to pull the shaft, replace the impeller, inspect/replace the wear ring. Never done it before and wondered if anyone has some good instructions, pictures, procedures, tools required, gotchas, and what not to do's.

Looking at the manual, looks like I need a lot of special tools. Driveshaft holder, Slide hammer, Stopper plate guide, Driver guide, Shaft holder etc.... Might be better to let a shop do it eh?

I also plan to replace the coupler, ride plate, intake grate, seal the shoe etc.

It is relatively easy to pull the pump and shaft from the hull. They come out as a unit along with the impeller. Remember that the threads on the impeller are left handed and is to be removed by going in the opposite direction from normal. If you see that your pump stator veins are not distroyed or have no chunks of metal that are missing, there would be no reason to seperate the pump stator from the shaft as a rule.

There are plenty of good used aftermarket impellers, pump stators and probably wear rings out there. Do not buy new unless you just plain want to be abused. If you do have to replace the pump stator, then getting a pro to do it would probably be best. There are a lot of tools that are common in a shop that will need to be used. These tools are not so common in a do-it-yourselfer garage.

If yu pull the pump and are not sure if it needs to be replaced, then post a couple of pictures of the pump on line so that we can see it.
