Grab the manual from here. And with a multimeter its easy to check the dess post. The manual will guide you through it.

Could also be the main fuse blown.

The dess post has 3 wires. A white or gray. A black, and a black and yellow. Without the key one check the ohms from black to black yellow. Should be infinite or open. Next install the key. Same wire should now show close to 0 ohms. Remove the key and check from the pin to the white wire. Should be close to ohms. Next check ring to black Or it could be black yellow not 100% one should show 0 ohms. If all this checks out the dess post is probably good.

Where is the main fuse located?

On the MPEM. Pop the hood, remove the storage tray and at the front of the craft is a black board. It will have a 1"x3" or so removable cover on it. The fuses are behind that. The 97's had electrical problems due to the location of that board.

My xp dess works. I can hear a very quiet click click. But no beep beep. And everything works. What can I do/replace to hear the beep beep?

I was chasing the same sort of problem and it ended being my beeper and my steering electrical harness. Good luck!

I would say that most beepers from that era have gone bad by now. Cheap way to go is a Radio Shack beeper.
