2004 GTX Limited (185hp) things to look out for

I have been offered a 2004 GTX (185hp) at super low price. I does not start but i am not worried too much about that.
What things do I need to look out for on this particular model apart from the obvious ceramic washers in the SC.
It has been laying idle for almost 5 years.
I think I read somewhere on here there is a problem with the vavle train!!!

    All help is appreciated

On the contrary, the '04 valves are weak as well as the factory rubber band timing chains. The valves are hollow/ash filled and are prone to failure and I would be concerned after it sat for 5 years. There is a sticky in the top of this section regarding the issue. As far as what to look out for...

    1. Without question, rebuild the Supercharger and make sure the previous washers are in place for evaluation.
    2. Check the carbon seal.
    3. Check compression.
    4. Check cooling system thoroughly.

I would not run it without changing the valves to the 06+ ones, and check the cyls for rust, from sitting so long...

Curious to what the offer is? You can PM me if you like.

I know a guy who has two 2003 skis he wants to get rid of. One is a GTX the other a GTX SC. I told him I would help him get them running. But all he wants to do is put new batteries in and fresh gas and sell as is.

Any seadoo 06 and older had shit valves.

If its been sitting for 5 years your in for a world of hurt once it runs again.

Skis that sit will have numerous issues.
It's better to have 500 hrs verses 5 hours and sitting for 5 years.

I buy n export a lot of units every year.
I have made the mistake of buying low hour skis that have been sitting.
The last ski I had sat for 3 yrs and cost me around 3000 to fix all that kept breaking.
    Good luck!!

Ditto on that. I would replace the valves before I even tried to start it if it has been sitting that long.
