read if your stator has failed ohms test...!!!

ive got a nonupdated stator out of a 96 slt 700 from a ski that i had replaced it with a new one..ive been looking at this stator and thinkin that dam it looks almost new!! so as an experiment i sliced open the black plastic wire protective boot and inspected all the wires for any pinches or discoloration. i noticed a 2" spot on the red/purple wire that had turned alittle darker..between the red/purple to yellow ohm test; i should of got around .75 ohms..originally i got 12.4!! obviously bad...so i cut the 2" area out of the wire and retested the resistance and to my admazment i got 1.8!!! still alittle high but it was around 90 degrees outside so i believe with consideration of the temp my red/purple to yellow connection is within spec!!

so my advise to all g.h. members out there; my point is this... dont assume the stator is the problem and spend the time to throughly inspect the wires!! i just saved myself at least $150...you got nothing to loose but can save youself the burden of tryin to find these hard to find parts..

something tells me that this victory wont last long before the jetski gods even things out again!!!hahah

that i havnt done yet.. thought it was for a slt 700 but turns out stator had an extra blue wire which is for sltx(3rd coil).. but i retested the yellow to red/purple when it was much cooler out and my reading was .9!! since then, my buddy brought me his 97 sltx 1050 and wouldnt you know the y- r/p measurement was around 13.0!! everything checked out o.k...im willing to bet that the same thing is happening to this stator!!! unfortunatly thu, he already bought a new stator before i had a chance to install the fixed stator... when i get a chance to dig into this one; ill be sure to update!

oh.. i also noticed that the wire wasnt bending like a wire normally should.. alot stiffer..almost like the wiring inside coating got hot melted together causing the restriction!
