GTR215 or VXR???
Hello....new to the forum and am seriously considering a new ski. I've had many in the past (WaveRunner LX, 94 Blaster, 96SPX and a 95 Raider1100) and I'm thinkin about getting back into it. I LOVE the looks of the GTR215 and have ridden a GTI so I'm somewhat familiar with the hull. I don't like the looks of the VXR but I DO like Yamaha's reputation for longevity and reliability. I take VERY good care of my things, so maintenance would never be an issue. Any suggestions out there on which direction to go? Thanks for any input.

Both are great skis but my bias is towards Yamaha.

I've had both skis and I would go with the GTR. The GTR handles better and the power-band is smoother. The VXR rides rougher on the water and seems to sit on top of the water rather than in the water. Also as far as reliability, both would be reliable if the maintenance is kept up. The gauges also look a lot better on the GTR as well as the design of the ski as a whole. My personal opinion is the GTR.

Wow, thanks guys!!! Great summary powerplay....especially about the Yamaha sitting on the water as opposed to in. I can see that by looking at the VXR and I'm big on gauges too....GTR's lookin sweet so far

You really should ride one before you decide, case in point I thought that a GTR215 was a pretty nice ski until I actually rode one. I switched with my neighbor a couple of weeks ago (before my FZ reflash) and it's not even close, The GTR (in sport mode, 20ish hours) was just plain slow, accelerated sluggishly and was boring turning in comparison to my FZ. To be honest I thought they'd be similar rides but the Doo isn't even close. Funniest part was my neighbor was quite disappointed with his GTR too after riding my FZS and expressed buyer's remorse. Obviously the VXR/S isn't the FZ but we did ride one of those too and it's a very fun ski and very fast/quick despite not having a SC'er and you'll have way less unnecessary bells and whistles to worry about going tits up then the Doo. So my advice would be to go ride a few models and see which you like the best or if you don't then don't ride anyone else's Yamaha later or you're going to be disappointed...
