Exclamation Rebuilding Jet PUMP, impeller blades are contacting stator vanes, HELP me Please

I am working on a 1998 SLXH 1050 and I am in the process of rebuilding my pump.

I purchased a rebuild kit from SBT and everything was going great until I torqued the impeller to 100 FT Lbs, the whole impeller moves about a 32nd" and if I push on it the impeller rubs my beautiful six vane stainless stator. Everything went together perfectly.

Anyone else have a problem with this?

Did you forget to install the spacer that goes right behind the impeller?

Are you using the same stator and same impeller as before?

yes part number 34 is in there. I noticed the bearings supplied from SBT are made in China, and even though the impeller is tight the whole shaft can move in and out enough to touch the stator.

Thats not right. It should not move at all.

The assembly is torqued down and basically clamps the impeller to part 34, to the bearing, to the internal spacer part 28, to the other bearing, to the back of the drive shaft. This rotates as one assembly.

Thanks for the help, I figured out the problem. Where the bearings sat it the housing, they had a little wear so I machined a .040" spacer to 2" O.D. and placed inside the stator housing before the front bearing. I started with a pinion shim from a GM ring gear rebuild kit, I am sure McMaster Carr would have the correct one without machine work. All is good now if I can just get it to run would be great!

Do you have any pictures? Putting a spacer between stator and front bearing will side load the bearings and cause them to wear out really quick.

This seems odd - The internal spacer in the stator between the bearings should have prevented this from happening.....??
