    Planing off

I noticed my Genesis doesn't plane off as quickly as my Virage i does. It's really a slug until it planes then it rips and really have to hang on. I got to looking at the difference in sponsons and noticed the Virage sponsons are quite a bit longer than the Genesis ones. Could this be my issue or do I need to look elsewhere?

Impeller to wear ring clearance too big?
Ride plate and or pump base seal is not tight (air leak)?

Start with the jet pump. Look for wear, damage.

And look for sources of air leaks into the jet pump.

While you have the jet pump off (see my signature links for the how-to), now would be a good time to remove and rebuild the through-hull bearing assembly. It has two seals and two internal brass bushings. Poor sealing around the drive shaft will allow air to ventilate the jet pump when accelerating from low speeds.

Or it could be the fact that this thing is a BOAT! My genesis is slower to take off then the virage. In my opinion, it is a function of size, weight, exhaust exit and hull design.

    Is this a 1999 Genesis?

I have never ridden or seen a 1999 Genesis in the water.

Is the under water dual exhaust much quieter than the PLANET above water exhaust on later model years?

It's a tad quieter than my Virage with the planet exhaust. And the sound you do get is more of a "bullbling" sound than anything. I do like that it is quiet and I have to imagine it helps top speed (less surface tension). It is quite easy to have a conversation with how quiet the exhaust is.

I have to say, the Genesis is likley my favorite ski to ride. If you are ever in the area, you are more than welcome to take it for a spin.

I'll check the wear ring impeller clearance and look for air leaks.

I did notice that if I ease thru the thottle until plane it seams to get out of the water a little quicker than if I punch it.

Have you read Randys tuning tips for girls? A little dialing in on the carbs might be in order. Sounds like too much gas on take off.
