02 freedom; replaced seloind but still has loud buzzing& sometimes starter works

my neighbor has a 02 freedom and one problem after another with it..he just installed a new battery and went to start it and nothing..just a loud buzzing.. well thats pretty obvious..so i replaced it with a seloind that i know to be good and same thing.. so i tried to jump across it and sometimes it kicks the start on but only 40-50% of the time? what else could be the problem?my opinion definetly not the seloind! any thoughts???thanx

Either a ground or positive connection is bad somewhere.

Remove and clean both ends of both battery cables.

Check the positive cable going to the starter for rust or maybe lose.
