    How do i change the T-stat in an OEM housing please

    ITs plasitic and i see how its a "tabbed" thing that snaps in but the outter ridge is sure thin....any shadetree ideas??

    you can get boiling hot water to dump on the housing where the tabs are and when the plastic gets hot enough twist and pull. or you can heat it up with a heat gun. try to not break the mounting tabs also put a hose clamp around the housing when your done for extra security

    Purchase the Riva thermo kit from the store and do it properly.

    Well the way I look at it is, that a $179.00 investment to do it right is cheap insurance as opposed to looseing a hoseclamp, dumping my engine coolant and cooking an engine.........but thats just me. I have seen guys do it other ways with a lot of them breaking the thin ring trying and end up trashing the whole housing.

    I did the 30 dollar DIY deal with no problems. I used a heat gun and separated the 2 halves and installed the 160 thermo and used a quality hose clamp. Works like a charm. MOST guys on here will tell you the same. Some people have had the Riva pressed ring come off. Do a search this topic has been researched a lot. My ski runs no hotter than 172 deg in 90 plus deg heat and humidity in fl. All day long running 8300 rpms. Search and you'll find tons of discussion about it.
