Fried MFD, anyone ever repaired one?

The mfd on my 99 slth would not work so I cut it open to find this. I've searched and found threads on repairing other problems, but didn't anything like this. Anyone ever had this problem? Thought about trying to find another chip and replace it on the board, but can no longer read the numbers on it. Anyone have a bad mfd laying around they can get the numbers for me or want to sell. It is the chip in the U1 location. It is a non trim model if that matters. Thanks for your help.

No, not sure what is causing the current draw that is smoking them. Earlier versions were much simpler and more reliable with the same functionality.

I think I might try to fix mine. The part's less than a dollar so if it don't work I'm not really out anything. The stator in my ski is bad so maybe that has something to do with it frying that regulator, voltage spike or something? Who knows. Thanks again for your help.

Best of luck. Please report back how you make out. Typically this model fails due to water infiltration via the button cables. Water then corrodes the bottom of the board. Sometimes hard to see, but if you look for white film, thats it. My guess is the buildup is behind some components causing a short and therefore burning up the regulator. The stator failure may or may not be related.
