Missing Skiers (NYC)
Just read this, more details in the article.
SCUBA DIVERS spent hours desperately searching Coney Island Creek for two people who were riding a Jet Ski on Thursday night, but there was no sign of the pair.
The two — a 44-year-old man and 26-year-old woman who were not wearing life jackets — went missing shortly after 8 p.m. near W. 33rd St. and Bayview Ave. in Brooklyn, authorities said.
Disaster struck when the pair rode a personal watercraft to the middle of the creek and made a tight turn that tossed the woman into the water. The man dove in to save her, but neither resurfaced.
Friends and family at the scene identified the pair as William Tom and CiCi Lin. They said the pair were friends and the Jet Ski belonged to another pal.

This happens every year. Last year it was a couple out east in Mecox Bay. They are obviously uneducated riders who have no idea the dangers of this sport. Irresponsible. I hope this turns out ok for all involved but doubt it will.

Who goes out without a life jacket regardless if you can swim or not. I was a lifeguard for almost 10 years and I would never go out without a lifejacket.
