    1996 slx 780

So I picked up a 96 SLX 780 this weekend, in pretty good shape. Trying to decide whether to keep it or part it. If I keep it, I will replace one of the SLTs with it. What can I expect handling wise with this ski vs. my SLT?? Opinions? Pics on Monday....

Tore into it yesterday. The previous owner had taken it to a shop a few times to fix issues and was having intermittent running issues when he hung it up a couple of years ago. The "outstanding" shop he had taken it to had replaced the CDI, both of which came with the ski, and replaced the PTO piston, cylinder, and head. Tested both CDIs, they both work fine. The shop installed a 650 gasket on the 780 jug, leaving a nice overlap into the bore. The motor tore that up the edges and started bouncing little pieces around.

Motor is free and turns great. All three jugs look good, as do two of the pistons and heads. I am going to tear it down and have a look at the bottom end. Inside of compartment is very clean otherwise. MFD is very clean, haven't tested yet though.....

Fuel filler in the nose. Don't forget to check for hairline cracks in the filler neck, and that the gas cap actually seals properly.

Or just do the upgrade to the newer style filler + cap.

Much better cosmetically than my 95 SLX they are a lot of fun and turn great. It will beat you to bits compared to your SLT. I thing 96 was the best year for the Fuji SLX. Something was different from the 95 but I'm not sure what it was? +1 on the newer fuel fills, A rat tail file will be all you need.

You need to go ride it
I'm up to my butt in gators now with three ski's I got to thinking the 96 came stock with a different intake grate? I think that 600 mile Tennessee river trip would be a good test

Based on the Polaris parts diagrams you are right, the 95 came with stock, the 96 with a R&D style 3 bar scoop.

That SLX will be a ton more fun to ride than a SLT. I would get it running and at least ride it before you decide what to do with it.

Extended ride plate, extended jet pump on the 1996?
