Thread: I was WRONG!

    I was WRONG!

I had started the thread http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19713

Well it seems I was wrong. I listened to the advice from another and posted it before I researched it myself. So Im sorry. He had me convinced I had done an inproper break in, causing a wipe ring failure.

Fact: It seems that a small valve had gotten stuck and exhuast fumes were being routed in the wrong direction.

So what I had was a small emmisions failure NOT a motor failure.

Doing more engine testing we have found that all 4 cylinders are holding great compresion and no piston blow-by or smoke from the exhuast.

Im sorry I blew a false wistle in fear that it would happen to others here. I should have done more wrenching before typing.

So as of now it seems the MotoMan article still hold truth.

    That's good news!

It's nice to know we're not sitting on a ticking repair bomb!

What's the fix? Or is it just one of those ramdom things??

Should we put those KN little filter breather gizmos on??

Better safe than sorry they always say. It's good you raised the flag immediately to warn others of a possible problem. We are all glad it was not something more serious. Thanks for the update.

    Emissions tubing

I was looking over my Ultra yesterday, Im guessing that the valve that burnt up on you, the oil catch can, and the tubing are emissions stuff and all lead back to the air box, wonder if you tap into the exhaust and route it out that way instead of back in the air box, seems like it would run better with out sucking in all that "DIRTY" air.Anybody have any thoughs?

Thanks Skip for sharing problem with us. I still say this is a great board with a ton of knowledge (except me) and helpful information.

The Valve cover tube sucks air from the airbox and the catch can does vent into the airbox. A $12 part fixes that.
