    2001 Polaris Virage TX 1200 cuts out wont go full speed

    I purchased a 01 Polaris Virage TX 1200 last year and been having problems since. It started with the engine cutting out at about 5000 rpm and it would not go full speed, just cut out like it had a rev limiter.

    I took it to a Polaris dealer and they replaced the fuel pump, but this did not fix the problem. It still ran the same. I took it back and they then believed that the CDI was bad. After getting a new one installed they reported it ran the same. They put in a regulator rectifier from another machine and it did not help. They finaly gave up trying to figure out what was wrong, but thought maybe the wire loom was bad and this was causing the issue.

    In the mean time I picked the machine back up from them and the display that did work, now does not. They stated that they put it on another machine and it worked fine. The reverse that did work, now does not. They stated that Polaris had an update to the computer, but now I have to push the start button and then put on the pull cord to make it start, and the stop button no longer turns the machine off.

    I am at a lose and would like any advice on what to do next. This is my first jet ski and has been a terrible experience.

    Is this a fuel injected engine?

    Please confirm the last two digits of the HIN number plate on the rear deck (model year).

    The last four digits are 01.

    Sure they are

    That confirms it is a 2001.

    And three cylinder carburetor engine, not fuel injection - correct?

    Sorry about only giving the last two digits. They are 8101.

    Its the three cylinder that is carb, not fuel injected.

    Close enough. Your last four digits are probably B101, which means it was built in February 2001.

    It sounds like something was changed inside the electrical box and not put back together correctly afterwards. The display not working is one close, Reverse not working is another.

    I would investigate why the display is not working, as the wiring is simple. Fixing that may shed some light on the other issues. The display is powered via a fuse. If you unplug the display you can check for power and ground on the appropriate pins of the wire harness connector.

    Run it briefly on trailer for about 5 - 10 seconds and check if all 3 cylinders are equally warm.
    Around 5000 ish RPM is the range of running on just 2 cylinders.
