2001 Polaris Virage TX 1200 no spark

Ok Just bought an 01 Virage TX with 7.8 hours on it. It has been sitting for years. put brand new battery show 11.6 volts when cranking. There is NO spark! We replaced the LR module with updated one. It did start once but hasnt started again and doesnt seem to have any spark now We have been troubleshooting from here and everything seems to check out. Any thoughts??

Check the cranking voltage at the CDI, on the Red/Purple wire.

See my signature links for the stator tests, and the 8 volt Brown wire CDI test.

Ok we have checked every wire... All checks good except for the black/white from the cdi does not have 200-300 volts. It doesnt even have 1volt. So do we have a bad cdi? Is there anywhere we can send it to get it checked? If its bad where can we buy one? Someone said the 885 and the 447 cdi's will work? Any insight will be helpful.

    Where are you located?

You ohm tested the stator coils, and the Hall Effect sensors?

The only realistic test for these CDI is to install your CDI in a running engine, or install a known good or new CDI in your engine.

A bad coil would not (unless it was totally shorted) prevent the CDI from delivering ignition pulses on Black/White.

Have you tried the LR module bypass?

Does holding down the Bilge button allow spark?

Ohm tested the stator coils and Hall effect sensors. We are in Johnson City, Tn. We checked all the coil wires and they also checked. It at first did fire after replacing the LR module but never has had spark since then. It has gen III stator and it all checks out perfect. I'm running out of patience.....

Looks like you may need a new CDI.

These are getting hard to find. Basically any red three cylinder engine CDI will work, as long as it is Gen III. There are timing curve differences, but that is less important than simply finding a usable CDI.

Gen III was stock on all 2000 onwards three cylinder carb engines, and the Gen III CDI is part of the Ignition Update Kit for 1996-1999 three cylinder red engines (900, 1050)

I think the 1999 Genesis carb engine was also Gen III, perhaps also the 1999 X45 (SLTX-B).

Thanks for the info! Guess we will start searching for cdi. Thanks

Do you have a Harbor Freight nearby? If you do go buy at least one spark tester. About 3 bucks. Sometimes the spark is hard to see. I know...you say no spark. Have you stuck a screwdriver in a plug wire and grabbed it and cranked? I couldn't see one the other day even when shading it with my hand. With less then 8 hrs on the ski hard to think a CDI would go bad, anything is possible. Could send the CDI to myself or someone closer to you to test it on a good ski. I would before spending the 300.00+ on a used one.
